The Legend In The Lakes

Description

As we went further north, the ground became steadily whiter after Lancaster, and by the time we reached passed Oxenholme all sight of the grass had gone, replaced by white stuff. We alighted at Penrith, and both expecting 44871 to take the fast line and soar through the station, we set up at either end of the station platforms.

But as the old saying goes, the best laid plans of mice and men... Due to watering issues an Carnforth they were 20 minutes late away, and were behind enough for the tour to be looped at Penrith, but of course nobody knew this until it was too late. In the end, this was the best shot of 44871 I managed to grab at Penrith before she passed into platform 3, I had hoped for a bit more surroundings, but am I going to complain when faced with the legend? No sir... :)

First off, Superb photo! Ian would love to see this photo, albeit he was in the cab of 871 i believe. haha! :D

Critique:
1: The locos them selves add effect to the photo
2: The scenery, snow and the smoke drifting make it look down right brilliant
3: (my only nag) Why did Network Fail slap that pole in the way? If it wasn't there, the photo would be 100% superb!
4: You got the whole train in and have shown the curvature of the stretch of track they were on.
5: The snow overall making the kettles stand out.

Nathan :D
