Wasted Power by CJSutcliffe Wasted Power by CJSutcliffe
The thing with double headers is, both engines have to serve their purpose, and provide motive power for the train they're assigned to. However here, once again, L&Y Class 25 number 957, a small power class 3 loco under BR and LMS, slogs her heart out on a train of 6 carriages and a loco right behind her, which at this point was doing, well, nothing...

41241 to the rear is probably thinking "Nice this..." and poor ol' 957 is turning and screaming "Put your bloody back into this for hell sake!" :P

957's probably showing the young upstart "how to do it!".

Great picture!

Hmm, that does seem odd that they'd attach another engine for no reason. Maybe 41241 was "deadheading", as we say in America: i.e. she was needed further up the line for another train and so was just coupled to this one to avoid clogging the single line with a light engine move. Alternately, maybe they stuck her behind 957 as insurance, just in case she wasn't up for the job if the train were to hit a hard grade.

Either way, it did make for a fantastic photo. thank you very much for sharing it with us. I must say that I am particularly fond of L&Y No.957, so any photos you can provide of her I'll gladly welcome.
